SACC says upcoming polls a chance to correct 1994's unkept promises

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Council of Churches (SACC) has described the upcoming elections as a chance to correct the unkept promises of 1994.
The council held a National Day of Prayer ahead of the polls at the Grace Bible Church in Soweto on Sunday.
Leaders of several political parties and electoral commission officials were in attendance.
The SACC said it was praying for fair elections that are free of violence and intimidation.
The council’s acting secretary general, Reverend Mzwandile Molo said leaders who will be elected to the country’s legislative houses have an important task of improving the lives of the many poor South Africans.
“We also confess our collective sin for our failure to keep the 1994 promise. We chose not to sacrifice for the future of the country, instead we chose our individual and narrow group interests rather than common good.”
Molo says it was up to every political leader in the church to root out corruption within their organisations and in government.
