JOHANNESBURG - Former African National Congress (ANC) deputy president David Mabuza is the latest senior member of the party to join its campaign trail ahead of the elections.

In recent weeks, the country has seen Thabo Mbeki, Kgalema Motlanthe and Mathews Phosa waving the ANC flag on the ground.

Mabuza led the party’s election campaign in Olievenhoutbosch, south of Pretoria on Sunday.

Since the ANC’s elective conference in December 2022, where Mabuza declined a nomination to run for a second term, he has kept a low profile.

However, he’s now honoured the party’s invite to join its campaign trail in the run-up to what’s been described as the most contested election.

One Olievenhoutbosch resident said while she was happy to see the former deputy president, she wants to see a change in the community.

"We are glad to see that the ANC is here. I just hope they fulfill their promises after the elections."

Mabuza was also expected to visit the Itireleng informal settlement later on Sunday.
