ANC officials halt Zuma's appearance before disciplinary committee

A letter by ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula, which Eyewitness News has seen calls for the matter to be put in abeyance, raising concerns over security assessment of large crowds gathering outside of Luthuli House headquarters, warning of potential violence.

JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) officials have halted an expected appearance by former president Jacob Zuma before its disciplinary committee. 

Zuma, who was suspended after launching the uMkhonto weSizwe party, in a bid to push the ANC out of power - was due to explain himself before a committee on Tuesday. 

However, a letter by its secretary general Fikile Mbalula, which Eyewitness News has seen calls for the matter to be put in abeyance.

It raises concerns over a security assessment of large crowds gathering outside of the ANC's Luthuli House headquarters, warning of potential violence.

The MK party had put a call out for supporters to gather outside Luthuli House in support of the former president.
