Tackling unemployment top of IFP's agenda should party win elections

DURBAN - The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) says tackling the country’s rising unemployment is at the top of its to-do list if it makes it to the Union Buildings after the upcoming general elections.

The party launched its election manifesto at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday.

Party leader Velenkosini Hlabisa delivered what he termed a '13-point plan’ to address a range of challenges.

The list comprised commitments to recover the country from what he described as political and economic decay.

Much like other political parties' manifestos, job creation was a big focus and Hlabisa explained how an IFP government would make this promise come true.

“We will revamp local economic development and restructure the Small Enterprise Development Agency to reduce business failures and create meaningful jobs."

The IFP leader also reiterated the calls by the party’s youth brigade to give unemployed graduates a temporary social grant.

“We will roll out an unemployment graduate grant of R3,000 for a fixed period to assist all unemployed graduates in finding meaningful employment.”

The IFP hopes its manifesto will attract a strong voter turnout on 29 May.
