Former Oudtshoorn deputy mayor Nyuka handed jail time for sexual assault
The Oudtshoorn Magistrates Court has sentenced that town’s former deputy mayor, Mlandeli Nyuka, to five years behind bars for sexually assaulting an employee in his office.

CAPE TOWN - The Oudtshoorn Magistrates Court has sentenced that town’s former deputy mayor, Mlandeli Nyuka, to five years behind bars for sexually assaulting an employee in his office.
The prosecutor told the court that on the day in question, the accused called the complainant into his office, locked the door and at first, promised her a promotion.
He then lifted the woman's dress and touched her inappropriately but Nyuka's telephone rang and the victim managed to run away.
The court found the complainant and the person who helped her report the matter to police, as credible witnesses, while the accused was found to have fabricated his evidence.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)'s Eric Ntabazalila said this was Nyuka’s second conviction and sentence for sexual assault using the same modus operandi.
"Nyuka denied these allegations, claiming that the complainant offered him sexual favours in exchange for everything he did for her. He further dismissed the allegations, saying she was part of a different faction of their political party, Saamstaan. The court found that he abused his seniority to obtain sexual favours and convicted and sentenced him to five years imprisonment."
